Starting next year, a local high school will play a groundbreaking role in supporting emergency medical response initiatives.
East High School becomes the first school in northern Illinois to have its own ambulance simulator.
The simulator is a life-like ambulance lab in the classroom, allowing teachers to work in real life situations with students interested in emergency medical careers.
“Our school offers and EMR first responder program currently, and we’re looking to expand the program into an EMT basic certification that they would graduate with their senior year,” said Paul Kulick, health science teacher at East High School. “Then they can move on into the fire department if they’re hired to become a paramedic and firefighter.“
The ambulance simulator was purchased through Career Education Associates of North Central Illinois as a part of the Federal Perkins Grant Program.
